Not Worth The Money...

This is just gonna be a short little post that alerts our fellow pooches to an item that our mommy purchased that is Not Worth The Money! We may make this a monthly post, depending on how often our thick mommy gets swizzed.

The item featured today was purchased online at http://www.jklgrooming.com/ . After my lousy haircut at PS on March 19th Mom searched for an instructional drawing for a proper Airedale cut. She found this website and ordered the 8 1/2 x 11, double sided, hard copy , grooming poster for $6.99 + $5.95 S&H, $12.94USD total. (That is their discription of the item.)

The chart arrived today, and it did look just like the picture, but it was a xeroxed copy , and not on hard stock paper or laminated. Just a double sided copy of the chart in a light plastic sleeve. What a disappointment this was. Now the write up did not say it was on cardboard or laminated, it just said "hard copy" so Mommy may have jumped to a conclusion there. Does anyone else think this sounds like a rip-off?

Well, that concludes our first installment of "Not Worth The Money.../??". If you have any suggestions for future posts, let me know!

A new look

With a teeny tiny bit of mom's help I have designed a new blog look. Personally, I think it is very cool, but these things always look different on other people's computers so we thought we would get some feedback.

Usually the issue is the width of the page, we have our screen resolution set quite high 1290 x 1024 which is actually the standard now but if you have yours set lower then this, you may see the scroll bar and not all of the page will appear on your screen. Sorry if this happening to you.

Apart from this though, is it readable to you? I spent a lot of time adjusting the transparency of the background so the black text would show up nicely. My mom has some issues with colored text so we kept it black so she could read it. So what do you think........what are your thoughts?

Hooray It's Monday!

The wind is sweeping across the plains and you sure better hang onto your hat if you have one on!

Don't you just love the start to a new week. Of course I do look forward to weekends just as much. Monday's here generally mean I have my lil' sidekick with me and for now he's still taking a nap. Soon he'll be up ready to play again and have some lunch. Thought I would share an Easter image with you and a couple of my little doodles. Use the doodles to your choosing but please give me credit if you would for the design.

No fishing worms today just woolly worms. So what's a gal to do but hook them right into a rug.

I'm sure hoping to finish up this rug of a bluebird in a basket of posies in the next day or two. Goodness the rugs are starting to pile up maybe I better start binding a few. Love to hook them but dread the binding. Do you?

Hope your enjoying a wonderful Monday, too!

The End of a Fun Weekend

This is us Sunday, after playing at the dog park on Dunlap & 25th Avenue. Boy were we tired out! We had a very busy weekend. We flew to NYC to attend the fabulous Spring Fling dance at the famed Rainbow Room. Hootie spent most of the time under the table, spying on his main crush, Lacie the Lakie. I met an older gentledog named Hamish from Scotland. He enjoyed his champagne but was still able to foxtrot and do a few fancy new steps! We spent most of the evening dancing together. Petey threw this fun shindig and I want to thank him for helping arrange the gowns and jewels that I wore. We returned back to Phoenix in time to make a trip to the dog park on Sunday. When Mommy and Dad went to church at 530pm Sunday evening we didn't even get into any mischief!! We were that tired!

Here's a photo and excerpt from Petey's blog:

Taking advantage of the stunning views of the Empire State Building, Baby Rocket showed Hamish the latest steps. Then this old dog showed Baby a few tricks of his own! Willow looked every inch a supermodel in her figure-hugging red halter dress from the House of Asta. Just Harry was proud as punch to be escorting her to the dance floor. Meanwhile, Mango the Maltese Kiddo and his Crystal snuggled and shared a glass or two of Cristal...

As they say, a good time was had by all.

Welcome Back Spring!

Spring time has returned to the farm once again. The trees along with the little flowers beginning to raise their heads from the cold grounds of winter have been in just a bit of confusion as the temperatures over the weekend dipped below freezing. Snow falling lightly didn't last long and the warm rays of sunshine quickly has brought spring back once again.

The northern part of our state though is still digging out from near blizzard conditions. How I do enjoy living in central Oklahoma where we enjoy milder weather than the north part of the state. I know a great many of you are experiencing cold days and wintery mixes and hope you are staying nice and warm!

I've been staying busy over the last few days trying for once to get ahead in my crafting adventures and have already updated my Lemon Poppy Seed Shop. If you have time just click on the link to see the offerings we have.

Well with all this sunshine flowing through my sewing room window I believe I'll take a walk before the evening sun starts bowing it's head to say another day is done.

Out and About

Mom Dad and I decided to go for a drive this morning and we went off to Petco to get my special food. Due to my food allergies I can only eat a special food that is made of sweet potato and venison. It is a L.I.D (limited ingredient diet) food and Petco are the only ones that carry this brand. After having a look around, checking out the birds and the rabbits and the smelly rats we went to checkout and of coarse get my cookie. It wasn't my usual cashier so mom had to show her which cookie I was allowed to have. After we got that I reminded mom that a new PetSmart had just open up and that we should go for a look. So off we went, over the river and into Iowa. We drove a way I had never been before and it was fun seeing it all. We finally got there and it was a very nice store and look what I got, two free frisbees and they are the small ones that I like, a free nail trim and they took my photo and made a button badge of me and that was free too. I got to meet lots of other dogs and got lots of pats and even a hug from a little girl. The staff there also complimented me on being the most well behaved doggie they had seen. My Sunday has been most enjoyable, hope everyone had a great day too.

Are You Sure They Said ~S*N*O*WWhat Happened to Spring?

It's been an upside down crazy week and it's not over yet! Our trees are blooming, the lilac smells so good and on every local news channel the forecast is a winter storm warning. U*N*B*E*L*I*E*V*A*B*L*E.....

The heater is back on and the long sleeve shirts and jackets are back! Well it's looking like spring at least in my sewing room. I'm working on the rug that Gene Shepherd started on his blog hook-in. With the Noel rug done the lil' bird and basket is soon to be finished, too.

The punchneedle has been popping through the cloth at a pretty fast pace trying to get ready for the LPS updates due on the 1st. I'm hoping to have them done early for once....we'll see!

Sloan loves to talk and for almost being 18 months old this lil' one can sure say a lot of words and even a few short sentences.

He must be calling PaPa to tell him we need more milk.

He is our official cookie inspector and even has the shirt that tells everyone so. Oreos are high on the thumbs up list!

Prizes Ready to Mail

Hootie: a sign of things to come!

An open letter to the Spring Fling winners:

Dear Asta, Mason, Chase, Maggie & Mitch ~

We helped Mommy wrap your prizes up this evening. She likes to do that sort of thing on her bed because she can spread everything out. There were a few incidents, but everything is now ready to go out in the mail tomorrow morning. Hootie ran off with Mason's Jai Alai ball toss but Mom caught him before he made it his own. If you'll remember from the March 19th post, he had his eye on that for a while. Sorry about that Mason, he didn't slobber on it too much. Then, I got up on the bed and stole a bone she was going to tuck into a package. I got the plastic wrap off of it and yum was that tasty. Mom made both of us kennel up at that point. She told me I was a greedy guts! Hey, that bone looked just like one that she should have bought for me...how was I to know? Anyway, she finally got everything wrapped and now it's just waiting to be mailed tomorrow morning. Yippee!

Smooches from pooches, Baby Rocket Dog & Hootie

p.s.~The picture at the top was taken 3/19. Oh, and I got to keep the bone I confiscated. he he he.

Wordy Wednesday - Combs

The word for today is COMBS

Okay, so if your moms and dads are like mine they have probably bought a dozen combs and brushes trying to find the 'perfect' one. Well my mom got one the other day which she loves and of coarse I hate ......but she says I should share it with you anyway. This is actually a cat comb (the indignity of it) and it has teeth that spin and that makes it easier to go through the fur, especially any matts or tangles.

Mom always grumbles about combing my tush area as the under coat is extremely thick there for some reason and all the brushes and combs we have tried don't really get through that undercoat. Well, this little comb did the job. Mom started at the bottom of my legs and worked her way up layers and YES, she got all that undercoat completely combed. Personally, I didn't see anything wrong with a slighted matted undercoat as it is 'underneath' where no one would see it......but you know how moms are, she said SHE KNEW it was matted and that was a good enough reason. So the word for today is combs......and finding a good one.

PS : All the little Sheltie Charms have new homes now - I will get them in the post tomorrow.

Spring Fling Give Away Winners!

Grand Prize

Here is the moment we've all been waiting for!!

3rd Place winner is: Chase

2nd Place winner is: Mason Dixie

AND the Grand Prize Winner is: Asta

Now, we need to notify each winner to arrange for the prizes to be mailed out. Congrats to all the winners and thank you to all the pups who entered the Spring Fling contest. We are so glad to have made your acquaintance!

Asta, now you must choose one of these 5 prizes (below) to go with your new leash & collar. Let us know which one you would like. Or, you can trade the leash & collar for one of the 3 larger prizes. We're easy!

What is this? Mommy said we had to have at least one Airedale winner, so Daddy was instructed to keep drawing until an Airedale popped up. Well, his very next draw was Maggie & Mitch. Good. Now this is finally over!! XO-BRD & Hootie

A give away

When we went to the State Park on the weekend, mom was having a look around the gift shop while dad was renewing our permit. It's probably an odd thing to find at a State Park, but they had these wonderful little Sheltie charms. Mom has three spare ones that we are going to give to the first three doggies that ask for them. She said they are probably too heavy to be on a charm bracelet but are great on a key ring. They are an inch long and were only 99 cents each. Mom says she thinks they wrong the price on them as she seen the same thing else where and they cost much much more. So......if you would like a little Sheltie charm, just leave a message and send your mailing address to me at cowspotdog@mail.com Personally I think the legs are way too short - it reminds me of a long haired Franklin (corgi) BOL

Two of the teeny shelties have homes - one is going to Josh and Jess and one to Marie - still one left.

Dales & Friends Meet Up on March 21st

It was a warm day for the Dales & Friends Meet Up on Saturday. The dog park that was chosen had no shade. I was the first one ready to go home. That's me with the red, white & blue scarf on by the gate. "Come on folks! Let's get out of here!!"

Reilly got mail!

I be so excited today - I got my first ever mail - addressed to me !!!!! Katie sent me a thank you card. I had to give it a good sniffing all over too before I let the mom open it for me and then had to give it another sniffing when the card came out. Mom is putting it in my "Life of Reilly" book for me - she keeps lots of interesting photos and bit and pieces in that.

Today was the last of the Spring weather we will be seeing for the next week - it is dropping from 60's down to 40's again, so the mom and I went for a nice long walk with Franklin and his mom. We even saw a bunny sitting in the middle of the road. Luckily it was a road that there is no traffic on but it still seemed an odd place to sit. We also went to PetSmart and you never guess what - there was a cat there that looked just like me! It had long fluffy fur and was white and black. But you know what was terrible - mom said she would like to have that CAT!!! I just looked at her like she had lost her mind - it's a cat and cats are those things that sit on the other side of my fence tormenting me. I pulled the mom away from the adoption center as quick as I could. I don't know - what would mom's do if we didn't have the common sense to make decisions for them?

Farm Livin' is the Life for Me....

Sunday was a busy day with church and running a couple of errands. Then the afternoon was spent outdoors with a few chores.

The lilac bush I planted last year is blooming and it has the most heavenly scent. It's got to be one of my all time favorite old fashion smells.

We wanted to get our onion sets planted and Danny started the tiller and began breaking up our small garden spot. I have to admit he even planted the onions while I was busy in the house.

With severe storms in the forecast Danny thought we better go ahead and get the cattle worked before it made everything wet and muddy.

Time for shots, worming, dehorning, and banding the bull calfs.

The squeeze shoot doesn't hurt them it just keeps them still while we give them the shots and stuff. I must say I truly dislike the dehorning process. Guess that's where the city gal in me comes back!

Big Ears patiently waits along with the others. We were done before sunset and I was glad to be back up to the house to finish up some more ornies I had been working on.

I love how these mittens turned out. They are a pattern by Brenda Gervais. I changed up the colors just a bit but they are gonna be so nice on the Christmas tree later this year.

Then I finished up a few hooked bowl fillers. The santa is an adapted design by Terrye French and Pati.

I'm looking forward to a full week with a little spring cleaning, hooking, stitching, and most of all enjoying family and friends. Wishing each of you a week full of timeless moments!

~*A Busy Saturday*~Housework~Cake & Ice Cream~Stitching

The sun is sinking low and the day is coming to an end.

It's been a busy Saturday with the beginning of some much needed housework, a birthday party, buying a few groceries, laundry, and finishing off the evening in my favorite room of the house stitching.

My niece "Maggie" turned 7 yesterday. Her cousins spent the night with her and they celebrated with a princess party last night. They all had a great time. Today we went to my sister Bobbie's home to have lunch and birthday cake.

Sherry and Mom

The boys watch as Maggie opens up her goodies.

Just enjoying visiting.

Erin and Jane...just like a daughter and mom!

A great way to work off the cake and ice cream, maybe I should have crawled up there but who would have helped me down...mmmhh!

So as the day comes to an end this has been one busy day. Found some time to make up 3 christmas ornies and finished pulling loops on this fall hooked rug for a retreat that the An American Primitive Gathering has been doing. I'm hoping to share more finished goodies tomorrow.
