Hey! Where'd you go!?!?!

What? Huh? Hmmmmm.....Well, turns out, mom had something planned that didn't include me this weekend! Harumph! She went somewhere near here.....While I was at home doing this.....
And, some of THIS! My 'what was that?' look...
Mom was at a place called the Lost Trail Lodge...out of Truckee, CA....a back country, off-grid lodge in Coldstream Canyon. They had to ski in, and gear transported by snowcat and snowmobile.
Mom skiing out Sunday....on her way HOME!
Saturday.
Local resident, OPPIE!! This high country pal, has had 2 knee replacements! And, apparently, never gets older than about 7 years old....(so the owner of the lodge says)
And, I was back at home with this visitor, Oliver....actually a female...(has laid a few eggs).
And Mom was here...bluegrass band, ice climbing, snow skiing...can't I go!?
Every year, mom does a winter trip with the American Alpine Club. She has a fantastic time, but left me at home! What? Huh?
All's ok now...spending Sunday eve with mom and dad.
And, for some inspiring fun times...visit my pal Golden Samantha www.sammiegolden.blogspot.com. We've been meetin' up to spot the elusive fresh water otters that we saw during a walkie last week (and we haven't seen them since!) at our local Civic Center. On Sammie's site, you'll also see me 'helping' my pal check the gopher holes....:)

A Prescott Arizona Snow Day

Hello friends! Today the folks took Hootie and me up to *Prescott to play in the snow. We went to meet up with the Dales & Friends group that I belong to but Mommy was driving and somehow missed the turn off. Well, we went about 10 miles further than we needed to go, but ended up at a much higher elevation where there was a ton of snow. In fact, we went as far as our 4wheel drive Subaru would take us. We just stopped the car on the road (there was no one else for miles around) and got out and walked around. The snow was deep, but had a crust over the top so we were like wonder dogs---walking on top of the snow! Occasionally Mommy or Daddy would break through then be up to their knees in snow. Funny! So, the photos on this post are from our misguided adventure before we found our Dales & Friends group.

These first photos are Dad telling me to #1 - SIT, then #2 - SHAKE, but he forgot to tell me which paw he wanted me to shake with!! So he asked me again and I switched paws (I am ambidextrous) and that is photo #3. I entered that in the Mango Minster sanctioned Training Competition. (Click here to get to Niamh's blog to learn more.) I actually do a mean "bang bang" but Mommy has never taken a photo of me doing it. Maybe next year. Speaking of Mango Minster, don't forget to vote. The Cat-Dog category has already been voted on, but there are several others still to come. Today is the hound competition. You can get there by clicking on the Mango Minster Logo on our sidebar. Hootie and I are entered in the Terriers competition if you would like to vote for (ME) either one of us (ME).

It turned out that Dales & Friends were at a place much easier to access but we did get with them and played for about an hour. We'll post some meetup pictures later on.
Hope your weekend has been as fun as ours.

*Prescott, Arizona is about 100 miles north of Phoenix and as you can see, has a much different climate than Phx.

Winter Days

Old man winter has made his way to Oklahoma again. It wasn't the pretty white snows that caused alot of problems but the thick ice that coated anything and everything and in return made for quite a huge power outage. The nearby town was completely dark for days and still there are a lot of homes without power. We were lucky enough to have ours restored late this afternoon but it is still flickering and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes out again.

Of course this lil' one thought nothing of it as he had his own personal flashlight and made sure he joined in all the activities.

Riding in his PaPa's old feed truck to take care of the little bottle calves was part of his chores!

He tried to offer them some hay but they aren't quite old enough for it just yet.

Bottles with warm milk now that hits just the right spot!

Feeding the birdies is also on the list.

Off in the distance are 3 deer grazing for a little something to eat.

The trees are encased in ice and they are a pretty sight at night although sunshine would be a great sight to see. It's been a bit on the bleak side here.

The cows are staying well fed with extra grain besides the bales of hay. Inside tonight I plan to enjoy the overhead lights and hook a little on a challenge rug. I sure don't know how those pioneer women did it so long ago in their sod homes with just an oil lamp. Makes you appreciate the modern conveniences that we take for granted today! Bless all those men who have worked non-stop restoring so many of us with power and are still working to restore those that are still without.

Hope your staying safe and warm tonight and being thankful for all the many blessing we have each day.

Home Again, Home Again.

The mom is home again and doing okay. She didn't get to see the new doctor (just one of his underlings as she called him) and the only thing they told her was that she has two possibly three leaks on the suture line and not one. They say it is to soon after the first surgery to go in and fix them surgically now (8 weeks seems plenty of time of mom) so they have her on a complete Nil By Mouth (no water or food) for the next 4 weeks in the hope that they heal by themselves. Mom gets this special stuff at night time through a tube that feeds her - it goes straight into a main artery though and not her stomach because that is where the leaks are. Overall, Mom says she feels okay, but she gets exhausted with the slightest effort so there is no playing at the moment. I also have to be careful as Mom still has a 'drain' in - it's a long tube with a bag on the end and I have to be careful not to get my paws caught on it. The leaks from moms stomach caused an abscess near her left lung and the 'drain thingo' keeps the bad stuff from building up. Mom says to say thank you for all your wonderful thoughts - she appreciates them so much and we are sorry we don't have a lot of "ME" on my blog at the moment. Hopefully things will start to improve soon and I will be able to start visiting everyone again.

This Is Not Good....

This isn't good and it just keeps coming. I don't even like to go outside it sounds like shotguns going off with all the trees and limbs falling.

I managed to get some more birdseed scattered as the birds are still looking for some lil' treats.

Inside a lil' one keeps busy with a tootsie pop....

ICE SKATING...YIKES!

Well the weatherman got it right this time...Ice and then we are suppose to have snow with blizzard like conditions. So far the electricity is still on but they are predicting major power outages. The grocery store yesterday was crazy....lots of folks stocking up on batteries, sandwich supplies, and of course the cookie isle was about empty wouldn't you know it!

I'm at work today and within minutes everything is coated in ice. Danny is bringing home 2 bottle fed calves from his Mom and Dad's house so they don't have to get out in the bad weather to take care of them. So two lil' calves will have a nice warm place in our barn and when Sloan comes to visit he'll get to help with the feedings. We just make a cowboy out of him yet!

Hope your staying warm and safe in your neck of the woods!

Getting To Eat Out With The Folks ~ San Gabriel Cafe' & The Outer Clove

The folks take us for walks along the canals here in Phoenix and 2 Sundays in a row, after our nice long walk they've stopped to have a bite at the San Gabriel Mexican Cafe'. Mommy was all happy 'cuz they were in time for happy hour. Strange to me that she needs a restaurant to tell her when to be happy. Anyway, we like this cafe' very much because we don't have to stay in the car or at home while the folks eat out. We can't go inside (something to do with health regulations) but we can stay on the sidewalk.
Here are Hootie and I outside the "outdoor seating" at the yummy San Gabriel Mexican Cafe'.

This sign on the outside wall says Corona Street, but it was really 16th Street. Silly bi-peds don't even know where they are!!

Now, if you look very closely you can see my eye peeking through the railing. You see, there are yummy homemade corn chips on the table and Mommy would slip some to Hootie & me because we were so well behaved. She also gave us regular dog treats, but the chips were our favorite.

Here is Mommy slipping us some chips. Good Mommy.

Boy does that look good Dad. Sure wish you'd slip me some of that burrito! Notice Daddy is drinking a soda pop. He didn't want to be as happy as Mommy was I guess.
Almost forgot the best part. Mom ordered a caramel flan to share but forgot she didn't like flan (if you can imagine that!). SO, we got to share most of it with Daddy. Yum! It sure was happy hour!!

Now I am taking you to a whole other country in these last 4 photos. They are from last summer when we all went to Canada. Remember the ferry ride we got to take? Well, after we got off the ferry and before we went to the Ainesworth Hot Springs, we went to Nelson to one of our favorite eateries the Outer Clove. It is a garlic restaurant with garlic in everything on the menu, including the dessert. (Similar to the Stinking Rose in San Francisco, but not near as fancy.) Of course, we had to stay outside there too.

There was a funky import shop next door so we got to help greet all the shoppers. Hootie left some pee mail on the tree/sidewalk so Mommy had to dump a few glasses on water on it to make it go away...Uptight much Ma??

There's cool as a moose Daddy with the waitress.

That waitress was really nice. She told us that there was some kind of weird law in the city of Nelson, BC, Canada that says "No Dogs On Sidewalks". But that law was written a long time ago when the town was flooded with Hippies. The Hippies all each had a dog and the local merchants really didn't mind the dogs so much, but really didn't want the Hippies loitering around, so made the law. Well, Nelson doesn't have any Hippies anymore (does anyone?) but they never took the law off the books. She said lots of people tie their pooches up to the tree or railings and no one seems to care. The police station was just a few steps away up the street so our mommy felt her paranoia justified. I was surprised she didn't grab a scrub brush to clean up Hootie's pee mail!

Well friends, that's the end of our restaurant hop. Hope you enjoyed it. We know that Asta goes out to eat all the time with her folks. Does anyone else have any food trips to tell us about? Would love to hear about them.

Being 'snoooooow' tired....and leash snap note!

We're home from the snow...had a fantastic time! My energy ramps way up in that fluffy stuff...LOVE that deep snow! Eye on the ball! On my double leash system again... We played ball lots this weekend!
The weather was socked in the entire time, and lots of new snow. Love it!
Top of one of the ski runs...
There I go...DIG!
And, there I go...DIG DEEPER!
Up for air!
Oh yea! FOUND IT!
[Mom's feeling a little funny about sometimes putting 2 leashes on me...but I pull so hard or get spooked and jump around...that she isn't sure what I'd do. Saturday, cruisn' around...I did pull pretty hard after something...and guess what!!?!? One of the leash buckles SNAPPED in half! Eeeeek! Mom's gotta re-think my setup, any suggestions!?!?! Super tough leashes and connector ideas?]
Anyway...all safe and sound...and I am SOOOOOOOO TIRED from the weekend!!
