Toot! Toot!

I yam what I yam ! and I've had all I can stand, I can't stands no more! That's my niece Erin...she is a junior in HS and plays in the band. She looks great as Popeye!

Our nephew John is a senior this year and has played football since he was very young. He is #74! He plays defense and offence and it's hard to believe both of these kids are almost finished with High School!

Mom is home

My Mom is home and I am soooo happy. Her surgery went really well with no complications and she able to move around pretty well. She is a bit sore of coarse and has about a hundred staples in but other wise is good. It will be a few days before I can blog some more as I have the most important job of looking after her. I have told the Wuzster in my sternest woof that he has to stay out of Mom's way - we don't want him tripping her up. Okay- time for me to go back on the Reilly Watch - thank you for all the good wishes - they helped Mom so much - the power of the paws is amazing!

These lil' cards are for holding pins. Simple and primitive!

Well better get back to working on some of those things I have started!

Frosty Around Here!

I've been playing with the markers again! I drew these cute lil' guys and gals on card stock and out came the markers....may just have to turn some of these designs into punch needle and hooked rugs! Now to find some time :)

Well...the wind is howling outside and the long sleeved shirts are feeling pretty good against the cool breeze. Part of Oklahoma is having snowflakes falling and we are getting some little rain showers. We still need all the moisture we can get!

Jenn our daughter had an ultrasound last week and it's so exciting to see the new little one...still in suspense if it's a boy or girl :) either way it's loved!

Sewing More Churn Dash Blocks

Twenty+ cut focus fabrics for churn dash blocks, need to cut about twenty+ more.I'll cut the background fabrics as I sew.

The old 500A "Rocketeer" is still sewing nice, no more tension problems. The machine is set up on an old large (Martha Stewart) ironing board in the front guest bedroom. I can sneek in and sew when time allows.

I love this fabric, only had a half yard to start. Why didn't I purchase more?I like to use it in my scrap quilts, will be sad when it finally runs out.

Yikes, the solid cream is really pale. I'll have to add some lighter creams and more of the solid light cream background fabric for a good mix.If I sew just two blocks every day for a month......
There will be enough blocks for a nice sized throw.

Zoey's favorite spot while I sew.She is one pooped poodle girl by late afternoon.

A Trip To Texas

A time spent relaxing, fishing, and enjoying family!

The temperature is dropping and the winds have changed out of the north....sweater weather is here! I'm going to pull some wool and dust off my hook and see if I remember how to make something :)

We are planning a church fall gathering here for this weekend and looks like the weather will be perfect.....hope you are enjoying your fall days!

A visit to the Vet and a warning!

Mom being the 'panic person' she is had me off to the VETS today to have my eye checked out. It turns out to be a teeny tiny scratch on the cornea. More than likely 'self' inflicted due to my allergies and my recent scratching like crazy around my nose. He did a stain test on my eye - put some yucky yellow drops in it to see if was deep and is actually already healed so nothing at all to worry about. The best part is we got to go to the park afterwards! Scrunching in all the leaves is soooo much fun!

Now the Wuzster (Denny) - is a different story. After being subjected to the dreaded B.A.T.H this past weekend Mom put on our flea and tick treatment. The Denny started acting quite strangely, he couldn't settle down and his feet kept jumping - like he was trying to shake something of the bottom of his foot and he looked really "worried and stressed" The little guy just wasn't his weird normal self - he was even weirder! Mom thought he was just upset about them moving all the 'junk' from the sunroom into the spare room. Denny HATES change and will bark like crazy even if the broom is not it's usual spot!!! But then she remembered he had the same reaction when she put the flea treatment on once before - she thought then it was just because he wasn't use to it - it was his first time and it probably felt funny.

Mom asked the vet today about it and it turns out Denny was having a neurological reaction to a chemical in the flea treatment. He was on Certifect which is a new treatment from Frontline. - PLEASE NOTE : The original Frontline DOES NOT HAVE this chemical in it. He said certain dog breeds such as Shelties, Collies and Shepard's - can have these neurological reactions and it can vary from just twitches like Denny had - to actual seizures.

Mom in all her wisdom has decided to keep us both on just Frontline now as she KNOWS that doesn't bother us. Thankfully the VET says there will be no long term issues with Denny - it is just a temporary thing when dogs have a reaction. He still SCARED the heck out of Mom when she heard it though and poor Denny has had to suffer through many additional cuddles this morning and much 'poor baby' cooing. Yep! the name Wuzster suits him perfectly! Mom has also learned that we will ONLY see our 'regular' vet now - it was his partner that suggested the Certifect for Denny and we won't be seeing him again!

How to Call A Squirrel

We are back from vacation....and this lil' one just makes my day!

We had a great time in Texas and I'll share a few photo's tomorrow....Still catching up around the house.

Mom Mom Mom!

Look Mom - something destuffed my BRAND new toy ! Who could of done that and why would they do it...it was brand new. It must be those darn monsters that Weilly is always talking about. Bad little monsters they are!

Mom is taking Weilly to the vets tomorrow, he has a white spot in his eye. Mom is not sure if it is a scratch or something else but it looks like it is in his eye and not on the surface.

Mom also got the all clear for her surgery on Wednesday so if we are not around for a few days - that is why. I don't think I like the idea of my Mom being away for a couple of days - who is going to play with me and give me my treats and tell me everything is okay when I get scared?

Walking "Ghost Tour" Last Night

Mimsy is looking like I feel this morning, a bit tired and wanting to go back to bed.

Last night DH and I went on the Walking Ghost Tour in old Bisbee, AZ. **See disclaimer below.** This is not a ghost hunt, but an after dark walking tour through historic streets, stairways and old alleys of 125 year-old Bisbee. Our ghost hostess (and local artist)Renee' showed us the haunts of several "ghosts", told their stories and shared with us a great deal of rich history about this old copper mine town.
Bisbee after dark. Copper Queen Hotel is the oldest running hotel in AZ.
South end view- open (abandoned) copper pit in distance.
Old Bisbee is located in the Mule Mountains, built in a canyon that narrows away from the old mine pit. Larger town buildings are in the more open area, then hotels and houses are stacked up the canyon walls.
On one walkway we could almost reach out and touch the third storey roof of a building just one street below.Rocky canyon walls are much steeper than it looks in photos.
Below photo is view from city park. This park was built over the towns original cemetery. Marked grave sites were relocated, unmarked graves were paved over. That feature made great ghost stories for our Ghost Hostess to tell. Many many steps down to the street below (in the dark for us).

This photo shows what back and side streets are like from the main street area. Very narrow, some were just gravel and dirt, some paths had the original old red brick cobblestones. Fun bits of quirky art can be spotted tucked here and there.Old Bisbee is now an artists colony.
Hidden stairway to Brewery Gulch Saloon.
We plan to visit Old Bisbee again (in daylight). Mid November there is an open historic home tour.
***Disclaimer***
Um, DH and I do not believe in ghosts. We joined the tour to see Old Bisbee after dark and hear stories about past inhabitants. Just for the fun:)
Next week-end we are visiting Tucson Studios for their Halloween bash.

My FNS

Good grief, a lot of cutting! The freezer paper is slick and curly. My hand got tired of cutting, especially after all the tracing of pattern pieces.

There were seven pages to trace.I'll finish cutting later :)

While I cut the pattern pieces my DH cleaned up the insides of this Singer 500A. (He wants me to use it for repairing flags). I could not wait to get my hands on that machine when he finished, it's been sitting for two years. (Found her on eBay for $35).
I spent a bit of time resetting the tensions for upper thread and bobbin thread, it was all out of whack. Then I wiped her down with oil followed by a good buffing. She sews a real nice stitch now.
While searching for my bobbin winder I stumbled across a box with this "stuff", some cut churn dash blocks and a magazine from 1995.The background fabrics were never cut, I needed to decide if they should be all the same cream. Now I'm think'in maybe a mix of cream TOT's would look better.
I'll keep these cut fabrics with the old 500A and use it to sew all the blocks and top. That will be a fun project to do over time.
Sew, that was my FNS.... not a lot of actual sewing but a good start on the applique project.

Freezer Paper 101 For Me

Tonight really is FNS, here is what I would like to work on. Project is "Things That Go Bump In the Night". Project is from a Kim Diehl Book- Simple Seasons. I have fallen in love with her books, love the colors and patterns. I realised my stash is full of her favorite colors so much fabric will shopped from my sewing room shelves.

Kim shows how to work with freezer paper applique, a process I have never tried.I figured this smaller quilt would get my feet wet before starting on other more complicated applique projects. (This one as small as it is has lot'sa pieces to trace and cut).

I was wondering why the roos out back were hanging out under the pom tree so much. Then I found these! Skins don't look ripe but the seeds are juicy and getting sweet. All the plants and trees had a late start because of the deep freezing temps last spring. It took extra time for leaves and buds to grow out. One fig tree died, the other two had to start from ground up. They have figs but fruits will not ripen before a cold snap.

To save lower pom fruits from sharp beaks I sewed bags from a heavy shade cloth.Bags are tied around the lower hanging pomegranates. The fruits need to ripen a bit more before harvest.

Wanted everyone to know I appreciate your comments and like to reply. I cannot reply for now, my 'puter has something going on like maybe some malware or a virus. I do not want to infect anyone, my DH is going to clean things up in my 'puter today.
