Free Range Finally

Finally the chicken area fencing is complete. A very nice lady from Elgin put the fence up along with perfect hanging gates, she is an expert (and is wonderful company for me). She has a Llama farm just ten minutes from our place.

Banty chickens enjoy being under mesquites and scratching in tall grass. They jump up to snip seadheads forming on grasses. The full size hens don't mind being out in open. They don't go under mesquites very often, maybe the needles stick big hens too easily.

Community dust bath under corner mesquites. The dirt is moist from so much rain (almost daily). If it dries up then I sprinkle with hose to keep everyone cool and happy.

View from horse play area. So far none have wanted to go thru the wire at back. Will still put smaller mesh wire there just in case. White Silky roo is always keeping an eye on me.

No more poodles at coop door.

Corner along edge of lane to horse play area.

The fenced area is about 70x50 ft, seems large enough so far. We may move the backyard hens out to the front but want to finish another fence for poodle area. (I have a breed out back that likes to fly)! That way poodles cannot go near the coop at all, they will have the front yard inside block wall and side yard along main lane. I always worry someone will leave the drive gate open (happened once before) and the poodles escape to run the valley. Once they were gone three days and yes, I was worried sick. Old Simon was gored by a brush pig and was in hospital three days.

Wildflowers have flourished in the record monsoon rains.

Skies and wind and weekend plan change

Furs blowin' quite a bit on our Saturday morning Open Space hike. With one of my humans not feeling good, and change of temps and weather in the mountains, we didn't make the trip to meet super pals, Sammie and Avalon. We were packed and ready to go!! You can imagine how excited I had been about this trip, and so disappointed I didn't get to enjoy some camp time with pals!
Wild skies, and breezy conditions back on our local hike, would have been nice to catch a wind plume to the big mountains...
A quiet hike, but for the breezes whispering in our ears.
Buttercups.
Side trail detours. Our brown hills heading off towards the West.
We caught up by phone to Sammie and family. They were now at Silver Lake, exploring the area and hiking into some neat high country lakes.
Wishing I was there too! We lingered on this hike. Enjoying the distracting gusts and wild skies.
Our today's walkie photos disappeared, so we'll end here and just say....
Have a sweet week pals :)

Needle Punch, Rug Hooking, Quilting, and a Wool Santa

Well what a Saturday! Danny had the alarm set for 4:10 am yes AM and he headed out the door to go striper fishing. I love to fish but this was a guy trip. I had other plans for my day.

I loaded up the truck and I spent my day at Country Collections giving a lesson on needle punch. This was Barbara's first time to give it a try and she did an excellent job on her pumpkin and crow.

Pati Jane taught a class on making a wool Santa....

Karen was busy with her Mom taking care of customers and putting out all the lunch goodies!

Rug hooking lessons for first timers!

Sandra was giving Renae a lesson on piecing a quilt.

Pati Jane helping a little on the rug hooking lesson.

Sandra taught rug hooking and quilting today....she is multi~talented!

Karan is a first time rug hooker and did well on pulling her loops. She is concentrating and so intent on getting those loops perfect!

Judy is also a first time rug hooker and did a great job on her rug also. They both were pulling up loops easier by the end of class and we found out that Judy and Karan have been friends since 5th grade....how great is that!

Vonda and Karen are the owners of Country Collections and have worked hard to make this a wonderful place for gals to come and sit, stitch, hook, paint, needle punch, rug hook and find all kinds of patterns and supplies. So....If you are ever in Moore, Oklahoma be sure to stop in I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Well we had a fun~filled day....Danny caught some fish, I got to enjoy visiting with new and old friends. Hope your day was a good one, too!

Pumpkin Patch Doodle

I've been doodling around again and thought I would share a free lil' pumpkin patch doodle.

A week or so ago I made a bunch of lil' applique pieces and decided the other night to turn a few of them into mini pinkeeps small enough to take along in projects on the go.

I also started another little fall hooked rug "AUTUMN" by Buttermilk Basin....seems I can't make my mind up if I want to hook, punch, or stitch.

Here it is Friday again and another work week is just about completed. The kids around here are all back in school and Friday night football games begin next week and it will be nice to sit in the stands and watch my nephew play and listen to my niece as she marches in the band. Summer is almost over and those autumn days are on the way!

My Turn ~ This is Me ~ Hootie!!

When that bay window curtain closes it is like I think I'm in the theatre, and I, Hootie the WonderDog, am the star of the show!! Ta Da!! What do ya think of that girlies??

Fall Kitty Top

It's so hot and humid here now, no rain for relief, the monsoon has stalled. I'm so ready for fall. Found my fall kitty block top and felt instantly soothed. Must get borders put on and send to LAQ Ami soon.

It looks so pretty on backdrop of trumpet vines.

Close-up of blocks. I wish we would have another fall kitty block swap at AboutQuilting. Would love to have enough to make a quilt for my sis.

Must share the blooming agave plant. It was on the land when we purchased and it avoided the trucks and workers while house was built. Now I've been told it will die after blooming :( that is sad. But it will nourish pup plants before expiring and I will be sure to plant those around the yard.

Blossoms will be pink and yellow.

Over-all size is around 25 feet!

~* Farmer Jack *~ Primitive Needle Punch Rug

I've dusted off my punch needle once again and found my thread and now I've got this sweet lil' guy in overalls ready to find a new home. He will be listed on eBay in the morning.

Tomorrow we are suppose to be about 15* cooler and it will be so nice not to be in triple digits. Today we reached 104* just too hot for anyone working outside.

Well I'm off to finish up a few more projects before I call it a night. Nothing like working by the light of the moon!

Egg Mystery Solved & More Than One Princess

Princess Zoey went back to bed this morning..... but she was not alone. Princess Chelsea was back off to slumberland too. See that little sleeping kitty back in corner?
Princess Mimsy never did get up!
White egg mystery solved thanks to Back Porch Chickens blogger. She said if the hens have white ear patches they lay white eggs. Well, my two new Buff Orpingtons have white ears. The older Buff has buff and she has always given brown eggs.
The pic below is my egg lifting device. Nest box is too low for me to reach. (Coop top opens to get inside).
Ah-ha, one of the new Ameruacanas is laying now! This morning I found two white eggs and very lightly tinted green egg (top middle in below pic). The gold and black feather belongs to the green egg layer :)
Quilty pics in my next post.
