Seventy Years....

My Dad turned 70 on July 30th. Sure doesn't seem like he should be that old. We are very blessed to have him in our lives. He still does a lot of farming and tending to cattle. Him and my mom have put in a large garden that they share with family and friends in our community.
In his 70 years he has seen so many changes. I have had the opportunity in the past to go back to Texas to where he was raised and go back in time with him to the days of his childhood through his memories. There were lots of hard times but lots of laughs, too.
We are a very close~knit family and for that I am so VERY Thankful....I'm glad Danny and I both live near our parents.

Well the temperatures have remained in the triple digits with no end in sight! So our niece Melanie decided to jump in!

Sloan is a lil' fish...he loves going under!

He jumps in over and over and dog paddles back.

Catching a ride with cousin Mel.

Megan and Maggie.

Jaxson our great~nephew....Sloan calls him his lil' buddy!

Two lil' buddies enjoying watermelon from PaPa Bob and Grandma Sue's garden!

I sure hope each and everyone of you enjoyed your weekend.....be sure to tell those in your life that you love them!

The Corn Thief & More News...

Mommy bought 3 pieces of fresh sweet corn at our local produce stand the other day and placed them on the counter when she got home. Well, you all know who loves to counter surf. Yup, Baby Rocket Dog stole a piece and even figured out how to husk it! Mommy was not too happy about that, but then the camera came out and all was forgiven. BOL.

On other news fronts, guess who has a new name?! Our wheelie brother, Mr.?. The official announcement will be made next week. Looks like there are 2 winners. Please stay tuned.

Welshie Smooches,

HOotie the great and powerful

Too many toys

Three little boys
Had too many toys
What was the Mom to say

Throw them away
No doggies would play
Or save them for a rainy day

{MOM} - This is what I came home too after I had just gone to the shop for a few minutes to get the boys some duck jerky (we had been hearing about it from the Woo's and Jackie who hasn't been eating much lately - loves it). I am actually happy they emptied the toy box and left everything else alone - this was a Denny and Jackie test to see if they would get into any mischief and I am pleased to say they didn't.

Nearing the Finish Line!

After several late nights and lots of work we are getting closer to having one big project done. We have decided we are VERY GOOD at starting projects and terrible at finishing....so we are working on finishing projects!

So I ran the saw and yes it was off in this photo. I took wood shop in High School for 4 years and was even the teacher's aid the last year. I have also helped my dad over the years with working with wood and actually I do enjoy it!

I got the thumbs up from Danny as the boards all came together for the framework. We are enclosing a small room to put our washer and dryer in and part of it will be used to store the tables and chairs we have for our family functions. With the really high ceilings I should even have storage for the Christmas decorations.

We trimmed out all the doors and windows. Still need to paint the doors.

The outside of the small room is almost complete on the outside wall. We still need to add the wood above the door and do the trim work. We are going to add insulation in the walls to help sound proof it....maybe the overalls won't bang so loud!

We still have lots of hummers and they do enjoy the cool, sweet drinks from the feeders.

The spaces for Frank Bielec's class here the last of September are starting to fill up. If your interested in attending please email me and I will send you all the information.

Happy Trails.....Ginger

It's Jackson Day

It's tough having to share MY blog with all these 'others' but Mom said I have to be fair so today is just about "IT".

Like any good "IT" he doesn't like having his photo taken (glad something I taught him stuck in that pea-brain) He will pretend to be looking at something "over there" or taking a great interest at something on the ground. "IT" has even be known to sample some grass as an excuse not to look at the camera. Okay - I have to give him credit - he knows how to avoid the 'flashy thing'.

And when all else fails and he can't find anything else to pretend to look at - then and only then will he just close his eyes and take a nap - all the while leaving the Mom muttering strange things about unco-operative doggies.

Oh Oh

Oh dear - what a mess ! I wonder who did this????? I had better check inside this pot for evidence.

Hhhhmmmm I am sure I smell the scent of a little trouble making 'garden monster' Maybe if I move some of the dirt I can find it ! I sure wish we could catch him because Mommy doesn't seem to happy with his little escapades.

Maybe if I check over here at that other pot? Oh !!! Urrrmmm hello Mommy - I didn't see you standing there.

What??? No of coarse it wasn't me that made that mess.

I am way to cute and innocent looking to make a big old mess like that and how could little ole me pull over such a big pot??

Summer has arrived!

Greetings to all my fabulous bloggie pals! Summer finally arrived....mom's been working a lot from home....my pals, Sammie & Avalon have been hanging out with me quite a bit... Above is my 'come get the ball!' look...I like to be just on the other side of the deck and peeking out!
And, of course, Avalon went for it, and got it!

Sammie and I on a lap across the deck...back to the pool side...

Well...just a quickie check in with all of you...

We are heading out today for a drive north to Oregon...to pick up a new camper...then home for a day or so...then if all good with the new rig, hoping to do our annual trip to Hume Lake...

I hope to say hello from camping!

Summer wishes to all :)

Blogger troubles

It must be my turn for the blogger issues - the past few days we have been having trouble trying to get buddies pages to load and being able to leave messages. This morning was better and we did get to leave some responses on about 3/4 of your pages. Please know I am visiting you when you post something - I just can't always leave a response. I am nothing but persistent though - so I just keep trying and I have learned that eventually blogger tends to resolve itself.

Like so many places - we are sweltering too - actually we have been sweltering since about March! Mom misses our nice green lawn - even though she waters it daily and so do I - not that I go outside much now - it's just to hot for me. (This is an older photo of when our lawn was still green)

I am pleased to say the antibiotics and baby powder has done wonders for my hot spot and for my itching. I still scratch occasionally but nothing like I was doing. And I smell baby fresh all the time now !!!

Another Fall Project & Broken Eggs

Remember this project? I finally found the pattern and fabrics. Started cutting, will make two (one for a gift).I like to have a few projects going at once. Smaller projects have more of a chance to get finished in time for fall display. Then I can start December projects early this year.

***************************************************************************
Mayhem in the chicken coop. It started when summer heat arrived. Lots of cackling sounding like fights. They are fighting now every day. I think fights are started by the buff colored hens (Leghorns). They are flighty and mean. They do each lay a nice big white egg every day. These days their eggs are not worth their problems. One circles a hen in a nest box. She pecks and pecks at it and then another joins.
They cram on top of and under each other. That's how the eggs get broken. I find other eggs covered with yolk stuck with shavings. Some days I cannot be here to check for eggs every hour.
When they discover a broken egg it is eaten, shell and all. Can be a bad habit if they learn to break eggs on purpose. Some chicken keepers will cull the entire flock and start over. I think at that point I will give up on keeping hens for eggs. The sweet bantams and frizzled girls can have the entire place!

The Sussex hen is getting her head pecked. Ouch! That's a buff Leghorn pecking. Sometimes the Sussex has bloody bite places on her wing shoulders. She is at the bottom of the food chain or "peck order".Ever been pecked by a chicken? It hurts and can leave a bruise if they hang on long enough.

This area is supposed to get remnants of a tropical storm. So far just clouds hanging over mountain ranges.
Weekend rain should be heavy per the weather guy. Hope he is right, we are still in a drought.
